Dr Obolokile Thothi Obed Obakeng holds a PhD in Hydrogeology/Hydrology obtained at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, in The Netherlands in 2007. He is also in possession of an MSc degree in Water Resources Management (Hydrogeology) which he obtained from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC- The Netherlands) in 2000 and a BSc. degree in Geology obtained from University of Botswana (UB) in 1995. He also studied Isotope Hydrology at the Royal University of Groningen in 1996 in The Netherlands.
Dr Obakeng is currently the Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for land servicing, water and sanitation services in the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services. He is a member of a Board of Directors of Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) and a Chairman of the Water Apportionment Board. Dr Obakeng is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH). He has published several papers, reports and articles in the areas of water resources and environmental management. His research work is predominantly on relations between plants, water (soil moisture, surface water and groundwater) and atmosphere (climate change) in the Kalahari.
